I purchased this unit to power small speakers for my patio and yard. For a low cost 2 channel stereo receiver you can't do much better. It has more than enough power with adequate features.
:) Probably installed @ a hundred of them. Never had a single problem. In technical pro av speak- they are awesomely delicious. great amp. I'm a pro av installer and I've been using this amp for 5-6 years as an inexpensive 2nd zone amplifier for applications such as outdoor speakers, basement speakers, kitchen ceiling speakers, etc. Bought these from amazon because circuit crappy city went out of business.
I really enjoy this amp, plenty of hookups with a lot of functionality. Cons: No surround sound, that about it. I bought this amp as a replacement for the one that broke. Pros: Loud, Two channels, Built in EQ sounds good, over all great system.
Unfortunately the sound is very, very bad.I am not an audiophile. The problem is that many tv manufacturers are making their flat panel tv's with extremely bad speakers which makes it necessary to get your sound from elsewhere.
I guess you don't know what sounds right until you hear something horrible and this receiver sounds horrible. Well, it gets loud enough but there is just something very strange about the sound quality.
When I bought this Sherwood receiver I wasn't looking for incredible sound, just sound that I could hear clearly from about 7 feet from the TV. I even hooked up a 30 band equalizer to try and balance out the sound and I couldn't get it to sound right.My old JVC reciever died on me and I never even thought twice about the way it sounded because it just sounded kind of right.
The price is great, the specifications are great, and the product looks and feels great in person. I am happy with tv speakers as long as they work.
It sound muddy with some things, and a combination of hollow or screechy with others.
At present, using with garden-variety bookshelf speakers (looking forward to upgrading) with DVD player, tape deck & simply as a radio receiver - and the sound quality is awesome. On balance, this product probably merits a 5-Star review without those minor (remote control, phono jack) considerations. It was amusing at first, but has become something of a bother. I turn on my TV and when I use the TV remote to adjust the volume - the Stereo (which is located in the same room) mysteriously turns on. Also as mentioned by others, a phono jack would be a welcome feature. My own experience is that I can echo, without reservation, all of the favourable comments previously expressed by others here. The only minor bump-in-the-road that I encountered is that, for some reason, the remote control for my Dish Network setup also seems to control the Sherwood Stereo Receiver. but honestly one that I can live with considering my satisfaction with the Sherwood Receiver.
